model design

Model Design is a required class for the IS person or individuals responsible for preparing the data used for the creation and maintenance of the Models used by Diver. This class presents the considerations that must be taken into account prior to designing and building Models with the Builder. The student will use the Builder to build a Model. The class will continue into the considerations of consolidated and multi-level Models with DiveMaster. Also covered will be performance factors influenced by the number of Dimensions, Summaries, and Info Fields.

Topics Covered:

• Data Discovery (information gathering, assessing data attributes)
• DI Model Structures (comparison and functionality)
• Model Building (inside the Model file, factors influencing size)
• Components (file types, block factor, working set, squash, build journal)
• DiveMaster
• Creating Columns using Calculations and Functions
• Production Issues

Prerequisites:

Students are expected to be familiar with Microsoft Windows®, as well as the operating system on which the production Builder will run. Experience with databases is helpful.

This lecture/lab class is designed specifically for the IS Professional that is responsible for the creation and maintenance of Models.
